Year 11 Literature – Headstart 2016

Hello,

Welcome to my blog.  I will be using this to provide resources for our program throughout the year.  I will also place material on SEQTA (the new DayMap) but some materials I use are to large or not supported on that site.  I will direct you when you need to come here.

For now all the material we will be using during Headstart and you will need over the holiday break can be found below.  Download and save the files here so you can access them offline.

Year 11 Literature Headstart 2016 – This file outlines the program, the holiday work you will be set and also gives a brief overview of the way we approach the subject and our reading of Literature.  This will be the main focus of my video cast for the fire day.

Year 11 Literature Reading Practices Handout 2016 – This is the entire first unit of work minus the assessment tasks.  It has an outline of what we will be doing lesson by lesson, what the homework will be from week to week and almost all of the class materials.  You will need this for the fire day work too but I will go over it in more detail when we are back at school.

Voices in the park – this is the first text we will look at.  I will read this in the fire day video-cast and look at the first section with you then.  The rest we will look at in class.

Year 11 Literature Reading Practices Text Collection 2016 – this is the collection of texts you will need for the holiday work and for the unit.  The only texts not in here are the ones we will work with in the SACs.

Here is a reading of the WH Auden poem ‘As I Walked Out One Evening’

Here is our lesson on the above poem – recorded for those of you that were absent or those of you that need to review it to do the homework:

For The Fireban Day:

2015 Year 11 Literature Headstart

Welcome wise readers to the best class of all and congratulations on making a cracking choice of subject.  I hope you like to work hard and have a good time – both occur within this program.

Feel free to follow this blog by joining.  You will get email alerts every time I update.  Please note however that I do use this for My Year 12 Lit and English classes too so you will see all their material as well.  This can be good but it can also be daunting.

Below are the four resources you will need for the Headstart program and the holiday study to be undertaken.  My plan for Headstart is as follows:

Session 1 – Learning From Those Who Survived and A Crash Course in Close Reading

Session 2 – Yearly Overview and Introduction  to ‘Unit 1: Outcome 1 – Readers and The Responses’

Session 3 – Continuation of Unit 1 work on Voices in The Park by Anthony Brown.

Year 11 Literature – Holiday Homework and Yearly Plan

This is the outline for the year.  At this stage it is a draft document as a number of dates have not been finalised.  It will give you a rough idea of how the units will run and how long you have to complete work.  Each unit comes with a more detailed break down of activities and deadlines.

You will also require the details and texts for the holiday homework.  In the file below you will find the instructions for the tasks and the five texts you will require: a poem and four short stories spanning the last 180 years.  I hope you enjoy the stories.

Welcome To Year 11 Lit

Hi and well done on beginning you Literature journey.  I will be using this blog as a way to post our work, update the program and provide you with resources this year.  I have used a wiki in the past but I hope this will provide us with some additional flexibility and more opportunities for communication and sharing of ideas.  Feel free to comment or ask questions as new posts appear.  Hold on to your socks folks – this should be an enjoyable ride.
